Considering the reader’s needs

The written material should also consider the reader’s needs and be:

  • engaging — attract the reader’s interest and attention, enticing, interesting, has flow, rhythm and balance
  • objective — without bias, avoiding emotion, conjecture
  • restrained — avoiding hyperbole, sticking to the point
  • utilitarian — functional, practical, having regard to usefulness rather than beauty
  • courteous — tactful and sensitive to your reader’s needs
  • considerate — aware of your reader’s needs
  • reasonable — appealing to reason, not emotion, avoiding bias
  • unobtrusive — does not attract attention to itself, only to the subject matter.
